DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening celebrating and reflecting on the natural world as we share poetry and hear Hillary Gonzalez read a few selections from their newest book of poetry “Where the Osprey Nest.” \nWhere the Osprey Nest is a poetic love letter to the natural\nworld–and a rallying cry for its defense. Rooted in the\nprinciples of climate justice\, this collection draws attention\nto the vanishing habitats of species like the osprey\, whose\npopulations along the Chesapeake Bay are in alarming\ndecline. Gonzalez\, a queer and AuDHD birder\, writes with\naching tenderness and sharp clarity about what we lose\nwhen we allow our ecosystems to collapse. Composed\nentirely outdoors–in forests\, marshes\, and along\nshorelines–the poems evoke deep kinship with wild spaces\nand the creatures who call them home. From meditations\non ospreys and herons to reflections on grief\, healing\, and\ninterdependence\, Where the Osprey Nest asks readers to\nlisten\, to remember\, and to act. These poems remind us\nthat we are not separate from nature–we are nature. And if\nwe are to survive\, we must rise in defense of the living\nworld. \nThe evening will begin with an open mic\, inviting attendees to share original poetry or prose centered around love for the natural world. Pieces may be polished or in-progress. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Nature Nook!  \nWe evolved from the natural world\, yet many of us now spend our days in spaces shaped more by concrete\, screens\, and schedules than by forests\, fields\, and streams. Nature Nook is an invitation to slow down\, look closely\, and reconnect with the world that sustains us. Through books about wildlife\, plants\, ecology\, conservation\, and our relationship with nature\, we’ll explore the wonders of the natural world and deepen our understanding of our place within it. The more closely we look\, the more there is to discover. \nWe will be meeting on the first Monday of the month (every other month) @ 7:30pm (unless a different date is provided due to the facilitator or store schedule demands) in the upstairs community space of the store. \nBook club members receive 10% off the monthly selection.
