SUMMARY:Save The Cement Mill!
DESCRIPTION:The Potomac Mills Cement Mill in the Civil War\nBattle of Shepherdstown Anniversary Talk and Annual SBPA Members Meeting\nDiscussion By Dr. Mike Nickerson\, President\, SBPA\nHelp us CEMENT the future of our past! A Piece of History is Crumbling… and We Need Your Help.\nJust downstream from Shepherdstown lies a hidden gem: the Shepherdstown Cement Mill. First constructed in 1826 as Potomac Mills grist mill\, this historic landmark began its groundbreaking cement operations in 1829. It wasn’t just any mill — it was the largest natural cement mill of its time\, renowned for producing high quality ‘hydraulic’ cement. The Mill produced the cement that literally built our nation’s history thru the construction of the C&O Canal and landmark public structures in Washington\, D.C. such as the Washington Monument. It was a central feature during the Battle of Shepherdstown that included Union soldiers killed by friendly artillery fire.\nGeneral admission (no reservation required).\nThis event is presented by the Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association\, Inc (Shepherdstownbattlefield.org).\nThe Opera House doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Lobby\, theater & restroom are wheelchair accessible. \nOrganizer: Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association \nLocation: Shepherdstown Opera House\, 131 West German Street\, Shepherdstown \nSource: View original event

SUMMARY:Banned Books Book Club: "Parable of the Talents” by Octavia Butler
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to The Banned Book Club! \nThis discussion-based book club is open to all ages and anyone who believes in the power of the written word. Expect bold conversations\, fresh perspectives\, and a deep dive into why books like this keep getting challenged. This book club is about more than just reading\, it’s about understanding why books get banned\, discussing the themes that make them controversial\, and standing up for the freedom to read. \nRead the current book before the meeting (or come anyway—we won’t judge). Join us at Four Seasons Books for a lively discussion. Engage in meaningful dialogue about censorship\, free speech\, and why this book is still making waves today. \nWe will be meeting on the third Sunday @ 5:00pm of the month (unless a different date is provided due to the facilitator or store schedule demands). \nBook club members receive 10% off the monthly selection. Copies will always be available in-store and often also on Libro.fm for audio download. \nAll readers are welcome\, whether you have read the book or not.\nAt Four Seasons Books\, book clubs are about community\, not completion. \nOrganizer: Four Seasons Books \nLocation: 114 W German St\, Shepherdstown\, WV\, United States\, West Virginia 25443 \nSource: View original event
