Shepherdstown Shares supports older neighbors through welcoming weekly gatherings, activities, speakers, games, field trips, and programs that help seniors stay connected.

Social Seniors

A weekly place to gather, talk, laugh, and connect.

Social Seniors meets every Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon in the Community Room at Shepherdstown Library, 145 Higbee Lane. It is an informal gathering where older neighbors can chat, enjoy coffee, play games, hear from speakers, take part in activities, and stay connected.

You do not need to register in advance. You are welcome to drop in.

Since beginning in June 2024, Social Seniors has welcomed a wide range of speakers and activities. Guests and members have shared music, art, travel stories, health information, creative projects, demonstrations, and personal experiences with the group.

West Virginia musician Terry Tucker hosted an hour-long country music concert and sing-along.

Retired Shepherd art professor Doug Kinnett shared his journey as an artist and displayed several of his paintings.

Jim Nagy and Donna hosted a mini course on winemaking, then returned later so the group could sample the finished wine.

Dr. Michael Zagarella explained the mechanics of hearing and why it can change with age.

Jenny Thacker shared travel talks, including stories from her Peace Corps experience in the Congo and other travels.

Joyce Rudnick and Julie Comeau gave a presentation on journaling and provided blank books for members to use.

Local beekeeper Jason Murphy brought an active hive and answered questions about beekeeping.

Anita Abbe helped the group get into the Valentine’s Day spirit by providing materials for handmade cards.
